I’m Dr. Melanie Petro, a double board-certified surgeon in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Head and Neck Surgery, with a fellowship from the McCollough Institute. Born in Mississippi, I grew up in a family deeply rooted in both medicine and art: my father was a dedicated surgeon, my sister is a skilled gastroenterologist, and my mother is an accomplished interior decorator. Seeing these worlds intersect inspired my own passion for combining precision and creativity—principles I’ve carried throughout my 20-plus years in practice.

I’ve always believed in Southern values such as honesty, warmth, and genuine hospitality, which guide the way I care for my patients. In my state-of-the-art office in Birmingham, Alabama, I’ve created a space where every face is treated like a unique work of art. Whether I’m operating, injecting, or using laser techniques, my goal is the same: to enhance the natural beauty that’s already there, so my patients can recognize themselves—even as they look five or ten years younger.

Beyond the operating room, I find joy in the simple things that make life beautiful. I share my life with my son, Grant, whose curiosity and spirit motivate me every day, and my beloved dogs, whose wagging tails never fail to bring a smile to my face. Moments spent outdoors—whether on a beach walk or simply enjoying nature—renew my appreciation for authentic beauty in all its forms.

More than anything, I believe that real beauty comes from being brave, bold, and true to your heart. That moment when a patient sees their reflection and lights up with renewed confidence? That’s the feeling I wake up for every day.
